GIC poster assignment

Here are my posters for my GIC assignment...they weren't done correctly and I plan on fixing them eventually, but seeing as how I got a pretty good grade on them, I don't plan on fixing them anytime soon. The first one is my reference to the Stenberg Brothers and the second one is completely text making up the face of Man Ray which is made up of only letter in his name, with exception to the New York City on his ear and the MOMA on his beard.

Self Study in oil

First attempt at figure/horse in oils...to make it easier on myself i stuck to black and white but i think the scale of it was more challenging than i thought it would be...maybe i should have gone bigger...so its a study of one of Robert McGinnis' paintings...here's the original with mine:

Master Make-over Finished!!!!!

SO....i just finished my master make-over project which is due on tuesday. I think it came out really well! using pastels instead of oil was a challenge-but i think the overall affect is how i wanted it. the faces were super hard with pastel-especially since where weren't any corners for me to use for fine detail by the time i got to the faces. the original image is further down in my previous posts but here is the rest of the process-enjoy:

Identity Package

GIC assignment: Identity package-but not using an illustration-only text! grrr...the hardest thing I've ever done in class and it turned out like crap! Others in the class were totally attuned to what they were supposed to do. Well here is mine-and now I know what I should have done-and Im probably going to do another one and turn it in for a better grade-even though I havent gotten a grade back for this one yet! lol but here is a redo:

Master Make-over

Workin on a new assignment for illustration class: a Master Make-over....taking a master painting and redoing it-using 1/3 of the original in our composition. Here is my original and then what I'm doing with it....I can't remember who is the artist-im gonna have to look it up! The original was so light and fluffy, I just couldn't stand it. I mean, it's beautiful, but somewhat barf inducing. So my idea was to take this genteel child-and turn him into a BA (bad ass for those of you who don't listen to Dane Cook). Anyhoo, the idea is to have him be a boyscout and walking home next to a playground of some sort-but he is attacked by "thugs" and instead of being the victim-he kicked their asses! Contrasts between the calm and the struggle... still trying to figure out if I want to do it in oils or pastels....hmmm:

Pastel sketchbook assignments

Pastel redo

well i redid one of my master copies in my sketchbook and added another degas to my collection- here they are (i think they are much improved):

Fun with figure! HA! So Monday's figure class was fun. We were using pastels again and it was a little better this time. The model was clothed and she was wearing some funky colors together. her hair was givin me some trouble so I decided to make it a little more interesting for myself. Next thing I knew, she was the red queen-so I gave her a scepter and a looking glass! hehehe

First assignment for Painting II...interior/exterior. This happens to be on the second floor of the new academic building at my school. enjoy!

Just got finished with our first project in Illustration class called "Playing god". We had to take 3-5 existing creatures and come up with a new one. Here is mine. Don't think I would want to encounter him an a dark alley. lol!

In figure class Heightened with white went well...here is my sketchbook master study and some work in class.

Okay so we have started pastels in figure class...and I suck! The first assignment for self study was a horrible mess-and the first attempt in class was an even bigger failure. But with a little guidance from Custode and I think I did ok the 3rd time around! Next step: try to recreate another Degas. will let ya know how it goes.before instruction:after instruction: :)
